A recent sweep in New Jersey led to the apprehension of more than 100 parents who had failed to pay child support. The state-wide sweep was conducted by the local sheriffs in conjunction with the NJ Division of Criminal Justice, Trenton Police Department, and the US Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force.
The sweep focused on those with warrants out for their arrest due to delinquent payments. “In most every instance, those caught in the sweep had dodged every effort to pay their court-ordered child support obligations,” said Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler. “Many of those taken into custody were habitual child support evaders.”
Over $40,000 was collected from those able to pay towards their outstanding dues. Parents who were not able to pay were required to arrange a payment plan as a condition of their release from jail.
