1. Introduction
The primary goal of RosenblumLaw.com is to provide people with objective, impartial, high-quality and distinctive content designed to inform and educate. Producing and upholding editorial policies is squarely in line with that goal. Creating our content to the standards in them is our obligation and is led by our editorial director, director of marketing, and founding attorney. When outside experts contribute content to our website, we expect adherence to our editorial policies and review their work to ensure compliance.
2. Our Editorial Values
We want our website visitors to trust us and know that we adhere to the highest ethical standards.
We have a right to freedom of expression, but our audiences can expect us to balance that right with our core responsibilities as a leading law firm in New York and New Jersey. In exercising freedom of expression, we must offer appropriate protection to vulnerable groups and avoid causing unjustifiable and unnecessary offense.
We must also respect people’s privacy – only putting private information into the public domain where the public interest outweighs an individual’s legitimate expectation of privacy.
We seek to provide the truth and use the highest research and writing standards to achieve this.
We provide coverage that is fair and accurate. Our legal and subject-matter experts provide professional judgement and clear analysis.
We seek to be impartial and to reflect the views and experiences of our site visitors.
3. Accountability
We believe it is our duty to be transparent and accountable. To that end, we include a brief editorial policy statement on our website. We also seek to promptly and thoroughly address any errors or complaints pertaining to content we publish.
Linking: When linking from RosenblumLaw.com to a third-party website, we check the contents of the third-party site for suitability, trustworthiness, and appropriateness before including the link.
Language: Inappropriate language that could offend is avoided. This includes:
- swear words
- racist or ethnic terms
- sexual and sexist language or offensive references to sexuality or gender identity
- pejorative terms relating to illnesses or disabilities
- derogatory words describing religions
- punitive comments about political viewpoints
Violence: We avoid the graphic depiction and description of violence. When real-life violence (or its aftermath) is described, we strike a balance between the demands of accuracy and the dangers of causing unjustified distress.
Privacy: We give full consideration for any content that identifies parties to cases. Unless in the public domain (e.g., a published court case), we do not include actual names or other easily identifiable information about people involved in legal matters, past or present.
With regard to video production, we use “b-roll” footage to depict illegal behavior and the like. Should we require to shoot our own footage, on-screen contributors are provided with an “informed consent” before they participate. “Informed consent” means that contributors should be in possession of the knowledge that is necessary for a reasoned decision to participate. Absent “informed consent,” our filming should shoot people and locations in such a manner so as to be unidentifiable.
4. Accuracy
Accuracy is not simply a matter of getting facts right. Relevant opinions as well as facts may need to be considered. When necessary, all the relevant facts and information are weighed to ensure we are providing our audience with truthful information.
Where appropriate to the content and wherever possible, we:
- use first-hand and primary sources, such as official government websites
- check facts and statistics, identifying important caveats and legal limitations
- validate the authenticity of documentary evidence
- weigh, interpret and contextualize content, including statistics
Reporting Statistics: We apply the same rigors for statistics as we do for facts or quotes. When our content includes statistics, we explain the numbers clearly (even graphically), put them into context, weigh, and interpret them for our audience. The statistics are accurate and come from a government entity or other reliable sources.
5. Errata and Complaints
We are open in acknowledging mistakes when they are made and want to correct them. We have established a web-based solution for our audience to notify us of problematic content. Upon receipt of such notification, the content in question is promptly addressed by the editorial director, in consultation with an attorney and/or director of marketing, if necessary.
6. Accessibility and Inclusivity
Rosenblum Law’s website content is written and edited to be inclusive and accessible to all people. This effort is extended to videos and graphics as well. We make reasonable adjustments to ensure people with disabilities can access the information we post.
