Record Sealing Helps Client Pursue a Bright Future in Medicine
Case Synopsis
We had a client come to us for help sealing a criminal record in New York State. After high school, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for a few years. When he was honorably discharged, he found himself having a difficult time reacclimating to civilian life. Without support and resources, he entered into a troubling period of his life that led to a conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree. He obtained help, and soon thereafter, he decided that he wanted to become a doctor to assist people who were struggling just as he had been. Eventually, he earned admission to Columbia Medical School. However, he had one more obstacle: the background check.
Our firm began working on his behalf immediately. We consulted with him to draft a motion with compelling arguments in favor of record sealing. He followed our efforts closely, requesting weekly updates. Thankfully, the case received no objection and was granted. His criminal record was sealed. He cried when we delivered the good news, and then set about getting to work helping others.
